, Humber College ( Lakeshore Campus & Guelph Humber University), George Brown College, and Centennial College. 2007 – Present As Adjunct Professor, falling back on his many years of experience, David is teaching courses in human resources from a practical point of view. These include Health and Safety, Labour Relations, Alternate Dispute Resolution, Employment Law, Strategic Human Resources Planning, Organizational Behaviour, Organizational Effectiveness, Health and Safety, and Human Resources, Previously David had taught at both University of Toronto and York University for many years. He also guest lectured at Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC.
In addition, David has led professional courses leading to certification with the Human Resources Professional Association, and continues to set and mark challenge exams for labour relations and human resource planning.
Ross Memorial Hospital 2002 – 2006 For four years, David was Corporate Director of Human Resources, in charge of human resources and training for Ross Memorial Hospital located in Lindsay, Ontario. He implemented leading edge recruitment tools and processes resulting in the placement of over 200 health professionals in a very competitive labour market to staff hospital expansion to 206 beds, budget $50 million+. He formulated new policies on Absenteeism, Return to Work and Balanced Scorecard methodology and significantly lowered absenteeism rate (2002-2005), compared to Ontario Hospital Association levels, with significant cost savings. While there, he negotiated contracts with all 3 unions as chief hospital spokesman, with minimal use of arbitration.
Progressive positions with CIBC leading to Director of VISA Call Centre, Vancouver, BC. 1993 – 2000 In the seven years with the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, David worked through several positions, starting as Manager of Labour Relations, where he was chief negotiator for all collective agreements across Canada, as well as coaching managers in human resource/harassment complaints and representing the bank in all grievances and arbitrations.
As Senior Employee Relations Consultant, David established a successful business apprenticeship plan in liaison with the Federal Government. He was also was liaison for the successful CIBC Aboriginal Awards Program/Scholarships.
As Director of the Vancouver VISA Call Centre, he attained both the highest employee satisfaction and productivity statistics, and the lowest absenteeism/turnover rates compared to the other two centres in Montreal and Toronto.
Ontario Hydro 1979 – 1993 Starting as Human Resources Generalist for various thermal generation (coal fired) plants, David later was Municipal Labour Relations Officer, where he negotiated and administered Municipal Collective Agreements for Eastern Ontario and provided HR guidance and seminars to utility managers across Ontario.
In Eastern Nuclear Services, he assumed positions of increasing responsibility culminating in all aspects of collective agreement administration, hiring and organizational development for Pickering and Darlington nuclear generation plants.
